Hicks Thomas Partners Named Among the Nation’s Top Environmental Lawyers

Four partners with Hicks Thomas LLP have been named to the 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Environmental Lawyers – The Green 500, a guide to the top environmental lawyers in the United States.

Partners John B. Thomas, John Deis, Courtney Ervin and Eric Grant were recognized for their work in environmental litigation.

“Whether it is navigating federal and state environmental regulations or handling a contamination claim, I am very proud of our team’s ability to handle these very complex cases,” said Mr. Thomas. “We appreciate being honored for our work, but, most importantly, we appreciate that our clients turn to us when they need help.”

In his third year on the Lawdragon Green 500 list, Mr. Thomas is known for his extensive experience representing both defendants and plaintiffs in environmental lawsuits. His work has been recognized by Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, The Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers. Most recently, he was named to the 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America guide.

Mr. Deis is a veteran litigator whose work includes claims under the Clean Water Act, Resources Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program and the Texas Solid Waste Disposal Act. In his third year on the Green 500 list, Mr. Deis has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America, Benchmark Litigation and Texas Super Lawyers.

Ms. Ervin’s expertise is high-stakes commercial litigation. Her work includes cases involving environmental issues, energy, oil and gas, insurance, construction, real estate, information technology and health care. This is the second consecutive year Lawdragon has named Ms. Ervin as a top environmental lawyer. She has also been named a 2025 Lawdragon Leading Lawyer and received honors from Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, The Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers.

In his third year on the Green 500 list, Mr. Grant’s experience includes four years as a deputy assistant attorney general in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. In that role, he supervised the appellate section, the Indian resource section and the environmental defense section, which defends rules issued by the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies.

Honorees were selected through Lawdragon’s reporting, nominations and reviews by peers and environmental law experts.
