Mark Lewis has been a trial lawyer for over 35 years with first chair trial experience in federal and state court. He has represented individuals and companies, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, in commercial disputes involving construction, oil and gas issues, toxic tort, insurance coverage, and breach of contract.
His broad range of experience includes handling hundreds of complex commercial disputes and catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims. He also spent time working in-house for an international Engineering, Procurement, and Construction company assisting in the negotiation and drafting of contracts worth tens of millions of dollars and advising risk managers on potential litigation pitfalls.

Mark worked at Hicks, Thomas from 1997 to 2001 and rejoined the firm in 2025. Prior to rejoining the firm, he was a partner with a large international law firm.
Representative Cases
- Refinery Explosion (Trial). Defended energy company against approximately 600 personal injury, property damage, and gross negligence claims after refinery explosion. Bellwether trial victory in Big Spring, Texas and key Dallas pre-trial rulings led to global resolution of all claims.
- Construction. Represented engineering firm in multiple cases in Texas and Louisiana involving cost overruns in the construction of chemical plants and oil refineries. All cases resulted in successful settlements.
- Appellate Victory. On interlocutory appeal, obtained summary judgment for insurer in a case involving the insurer’s duty to reimburse the insured for attorney’s fees incurred by counsel chosen by the insured.
- Wrongful Death Trial Victory. Obtained defense verdict for a transportation broker after a two-week trial in South Texas.
- Toxic Tort. Multiple trials involving claims of injury from asbestos or silica, including a defense verdict in South Texas in a wrongful death asbestos case.
- Oil and Gas. Represented a major exploration and production company in disputes with the federal government over the payment of royalties on production from federal lands.
- Admiralty/Offshore Production. Represented the owner of a jack-up drilling rig that broke free during a hurricane and damaged another offshore drilling platform.
- BP/Deepwater Horizon. Represented BP following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill defending against multiple claims for property damage and also assisting in recovery by negotiating with Minerals Management Service and United States Coast Guard to coordinate clean-up efforts.
- In-House Experience. Worked as the Project Attorney for a major Engineering and Construction company on the largest expansion of a refinery in U.S. history. Client was the chief engineer and general contractor. Mark participated in negotiating and drafting subcontracts and reconciling conflicting indemnity agreements. He also advised the client on regulatory developments.
