Hicks Thomas Continues Managed Care Growth with Addition of Veteran Trial Lawyer Mitch Reid

By Hicks Thomas LLP

Reid reunites with former colleagues, deepening one of the firm’s fastest-growing practices

Hicks Thomas LLP is pleased to announce that veteran trial lawyer Mitch Reid has joined the firm as a partner in its new Denver office, adding to its nationally recognized managed care litigation practice and continuing a period of remarkable growth for the group.

Mr. Reid’s arrival builds directly on the firm’s September 2024 expansion, when Hicks Thomas added nine veteran trial lawyers to significantly expand its managed care practice. Like that group, Mr. Reid built his career at Hunton Andrews Kurth, where he practiced for more than 19 years, and this move reunites him with many of the colleagues who now anchor the Hicks Thomas team.

Mr. Reid, who is licensed in both Texas and Colorado, will be based in the firm’s new Denver office. He has spent more than two decades defending insurers, managed care organizations, employers, third-party administrators and other healthcare industry stakeholders in high-stakes litigation, arbitration and regulatory disputes, including ERISA, Medicare, Affordable Care Act, No Surprises Act, bad-faith, and prompt-pay matters.

“Since 1997, this firm has been built on a simple commitment — to win for our clients and to treat their toughest problems as our own,” said John B. Thomas, co-founder of Hicks Thomas. “When we added over a dozen lawyers to this practice in 2024, we said we intended for Hicks Thomas to be a major player in managed care litigation. Mitch’s arrival delivers on that commitment. As reimbursement disputes, regulatory challenges and coverage litigation grow more complex and more consequential, his experience expands our ability to provide elite, results-driven trial representation for clients nationwide.”

The addition continues a run of national recognition for the firm, which Chambers and Partners has described as “an accomplished team of commercial litigators with a wealth of trial experience” and which has been honored by The Best Lawyers in America, Lawdragon, Benchmark Litigation and The Legal 500.

“Adding Mitch represents a significant investment in the future of our managed care practice,” said John B. Shely, partner and leader of the Hicks Thomas managed care litigation group. “He is one of the most respected lawyers in this space and bringing him back together with the team he practiced alongside for years only strengthens what we can deliver for our clients.”

A former Army military intelligence captain, Mr. Reid is also an active bar leader, serving as first vice president of the Denver Bar Association and having held leadership positions with the Houston Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, and other professional organizations.

“I am excited to join Hicks Thomas and reunite with so many lawyers I admire and have worked with before,” Mr. Reid said. “This is a firm that wins for its clients and never loses sight of the people it serves, and I look forward to doing my part to build on that success.”
