Maggie is a health care, litigation and transactional attorney. Her engagements
in the healthcare industry cover a broad range of issues, and her extensive
work on behalf of healthcare providers has included:
- Organizing and structuring joint ventures, including hospitals, physicians’
groups, hospices, medical equipment and supply companies, and home health agencies.
- Performing internal audits of healthcare providers resulting in self-disclosures
to state and federal agencies.
- Interpreting and analyzing compliance with state and federal anti-fraud
and abuse statutes and applicable regulations, including Stark laws and
Prior to joining Jay Old & Associates, Maggie was Chief Legal Officer
and General Counsel to a multi-state healthcare system. While in-house,
Maggie focused on compliance and regulatory matters as well as a wide
variety of healthcare operational and transactional issues. She is highly
experienced in defending employers against claims before the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission and the Texas Workforce Commission.
Maggie began her legal career as a litigation and transactional attorney
with Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont, Texas, serving as outside counsel
to several financial institutions and local governmental entities. She
has represented clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, including
insurance disputes, business litigation and serious personal injury cases.
Her transactional work has ranged from simple to complex transactions,
including corporate and entity formation, general business matters, and
multi-million dollar mergers, divestitures and acquisitions.
Maggie earned a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors from Lamar University
in 1995. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from The University of Texas
School of Law in 1998 and is admitted to practice in Texas.
